Staff still want the school calendar with the personal planning outlook. So we set aside some time to transfer the information from Sims to Outlook. This is what we had to do.
Sims Calendar to Outlook
First we created a report in Sims – School Diary Export Outlook. However the date exported from Sims needed to be modified to dd/mm/yyyy from dd/mmm/yyyy. This can not be configured within Sims so we created a report that uses a diary focus to amend this issue.
Next we created a new user account called “Schools Calender” and imported the Sims export. Permissions were restricted to key staff and the whole school staff given read only access. Now departments can work with information readily available in outlook with many staff wishing to sync with mobile phones. The only downside is that the import is manual and therefore regular task .
