Kindle 2

February 9, 2009 § 3 Comments

Not moving too far from the reading conversation the Kindle 2 is being plugged. Now this is not a Kindle 2 review but a few notably additions;

So just what’s new and different? We’ll take you through the highlights below. If you’ve spotted any other important differences, please let us know in the comments.

  • The screen is six inches tall, it can display 16 shades of gray, so it more of a book than the itouch.
  • It can actually speak to you (male of female).
  • There’s been no price drop, so still around £200

What about no library but 230,000 books? Will a Kindle ever be a part of Netbook? Now thats an idea I will ponder.

So now I am thinking, can the Google books make it onto the Kindle? Anyone?

  • Still a little rich for me, however one interesting nugget I picked up on my web travels was the fact that Kindle content is likely to be available on mobile phones – could it be the iPhone? Google’s Android? We will just have to wait and see, but the question still remains whether I could face reading an entire book on my phone I am really not sure, I am not sure my eyes would be thanking me!!

    Integrate the Kindle speech utility into my iPhone and then maybe I will take a look.

  • iSpeak will be great as long as the books are text rather than scanned images of text. With that in mind Google have launched a Google Mobile Book Search for iPhone and Android, they have converted the scanned books through an OCR process.

    Not sure how many have been through this process yet but will take a look tomorrow.
